A special surprise custom build for guitarist Marty Staley, as a birthday present from his brother, Matt. Bolt on neck cbg using surplus Johnson brand neck. Padron box was filled with Maple, drilled and routed for neck pocket, electronics and pickup. Then a 3/8″ Birdseye Maple top was cut to fit and sanded to a curved top, replacing the original box lid and glued in permanently. The electronics access is through a cover plate on the back. Cocobolo logo applique was added and the headstock edge beveled and refinished. Pickup is standard humbucker set in Tele style bridge plate. Neck bolts in Strat style with a chrome plate on the back of the guitar. This type of build is highly recommended for electric players that are looking for the familiar neck feel but want the cbg look. Although, it is much less work in the neck work, additional layout time was required to get the fit nice and tight. The top veneer was almost destiny. I had a scrap of Birdseye sitting near the guitar and realized that it was almost exactly the size needed. I ended up only cutting a quarter inch off the length and even less from the width for a perfect fit. I love it when the planets align like that…LOL
